LG’s warranty: check yours before you pay anyone

LG’s standard term is one year of parts and labor from delivery or purchase. On some parts it lists much longer, model by model. One French door refrigerator on LG’s support pages:

LG LF25G8330S, years from purchase
  • The whole refrigerator parts and labor, 1 year
  • The sealed system parts and labor, 5 years
  • The linear or inverter compressor parts to year 10, labor to year 5

Other LG appliances list longer terms too. On the models we looked up: a front-load washer’s direct drive motor, 10 years; a dryer’s drum, 3 years; a dishwasher’s motor, 10 years, and its racks and tub, 2. Bought at Costco? LG adds a second year to its one-year terms.

Still covered? Call LG on 1-800-243-0000 or use its online repair request. A protection plan from the store goes through the store. Out of warranty, call or text us.

The terms change with the model and the year, and LG’s summaries don’t always say whether a longer term includes labor. Look up your model on LG’s support site before you pay anyone, us included.

What is your LG doing?

Tap one for what LG’s own help pages say and the checks an owner can make first. LG’s codes point to a system, not a broken part, and can differ from model to model.

  1. The controls. LG’s setting range is 34°F to 37°F, and OFF on the display is demo mode.
  2. The ice maker and its bin. LG’s reset starts by taking the bin out.
  3. The doors: closing firmly, with the shelves and bins sitting right.
  4. The air vents at the back. Food against them, or a fridge packed past about 70 percent, blocks the cold air.
  5. The washer’s display, where OE, IE, UE, LE, dE and tCL show.
  6. Behind the washer: the drain hose, not kinked or clogged, and for IE the faucet and the supply hose.
  7. The drain pump filter, behind the small panel at the bottom front. LG suggests cleaning it monthly.

An LG French door refrigerator, right door open, and a front-load washer: drawn by us and simplified. The checks come from LG’s own help pages.

Refrigerator not cold enough, or the display shows OFF

Possible causes: a setting outside LG’s 34°F to 37°F, a fridge packed past about 70 percent full, food against the air vents at the back, or a door that isn’t closing firmly. After installation or a repair, LG allows two to three days to get cold. OFF on the display is demo mode, which switches all cooling off for the showroom.

Check first: the setting, the vents and the shelves and bins sitting right. For demo mode, LG’s support page gives the button steps by the refrigerator’s year.

Ice maker making little or no ice

Possible causes: LG names three: the water supply, the ice maker switched off, or a freezer that isn’t cold enough. LG recommends -4°F for making ice, and the freezer has to hold below 19°F. A new install can take 24 hours to start.

Check first: LG’s own reset: take out the bin, shake the ice maker up and down a couple of times, put the bin back and cut the power for 30 seconds at the plug or breaker. No ice four to six hours later, LG says it needs a repair. More on ice maker repair.

Refrigerator shows Er FF, Er IF, Er dH or another code

Possible causes: FF is the freezer fan, rF the fridge fan and CF the cooling fan; IF is the ice maker fan and It its motor; dH means the defrost sensor’s temperature isn’t rising, and LG adds that the evaporator may be iced over.

Check first: for those codes LG’s instruction is to request service. gF is a water code: LG lets owners check that the tap is fully open, the hose and the water pressure. Photograph the code, then text it to us with the model label.

Washer shows OE or IE

Possible causes: OE means the washer can’t drain the wash water; a top-loader shows it after 13 minutes of trying. IE means the tub didn’t fill in time.

Check first: for OE, the drain hose behind the washer, not kinked or clogged, and on a front-loader the drain pump filter behind the small panel at the bottom front; LG suggests cleaning it monthly, with the washer off and drained and a towel ready. For IE, the faucet and the supply hose.

Washer shows UE, LE, dE or tCL

Possible causes: UE is an unbalanced load, piled to one side of the drum. LE means the tub failed to spin. dE means the door isn’t closed properly, or closed but not locked. tCL isn’t a fault at all: it’s LG’s reminder to run Tub Clean.

Check first: for UE, pause and spread the laundry evenly; for LE, unplug for five minutes and try again; for dE, open and close the door firmly. Codes that keep coming back are ours to look at.

Dryer slow, not heating, or showing d80 or d90

Possible causes: d80, d90 and d95 mean the exhaust duct is clogged, and LG’s Flow Sense bars show how badly; LG sends owners to a vent cleaner for it. A long cycle can also be Energy Saver, on by default for Cotton/Normal, which dries without heat for most of the cycle. tE1 to tE3 point to a thermistor.

Check first: the lint filter, and wipe the sensor bars inside the drum with a damp cloth. For the duct, see our dryer vent cleaning. An nP code means a wiring problem in the house: that one is for an electrician.

Dishwasher shows OE, AE or HE

Possible causes: OE means the tub isn’t fully draining. AE (FE on some models) means a leak was detected or too much water came in. HE means the water isn’t being heated.

Check first: for OE, clean the filter and straighten a bent drain hose. For AE, use dishwasher detergent only, never dish soap; if nothing is leaking but the code stays, LG says to unplug it and request service. HE, LG says, needs a technician.

Range or wall oven showing an F code

Possible causes: F1 or F2 is the upper oven’s temperature sensor, F9 means the upper oven isn’t heating properly, F10 is the upper oven’s door lock and F3 a touch pad key. PF only means the power was interrupted, and HS on the cooktop says it’s still hotter than 150°F.

Check first: for most oven codes, LG’s step is to press CLEAR/OFF and try again; for F3, the breaker off for 30 seconds. If the code keeps coming back, LG says the range needs service. A gas range? Call or text us before you book.

The small access panel at the bottom of a front-load washer open on the drain pump filter cap, a tray and a towel on the floor in front

Cleaning the drain pump filter

On a front-loader it sits behind the small panel at the bottom front; top-loaders don’t have one. LG’s steps: the washer empty, turned off and drained of any water you can see, and a towel ready, because a little water runs out when the filter comes off. LG suggests doing it monthly.

An LG range recall worth checking

  • Electric ranges with front knobs, slide-in and freestanding, February 2025, about 500,000 sold from 2015 through January 2025: the knobs can be turned on by accidental contact, from people or pets. LG’s remedy is a warning label reminding owners to use the range’s Lock Out or Control Lock. CPSC’s notice

LG handles the recall itself, and CPSC’s notice has the model and serial table and LG’s recall line. Anything else wrong with your LG range is a repair: call or text us.

Find the label: model and serial number

LG prints both numbers on one label. Where it sits depends on the appliance, and on most it’s just inside a door.

Kitchen

Open the door: on an LG refrigerator, dishwasher or range the label is just inside it; on a wall oven, it’s under the control panel.

Every kitchen appliance
Refrigerator
Inside the fridge, on the right-hand wall on most models; newer ones have it on the left.
Dishwasher
On the right side of the door, when it’s open.
Range
Inside the oven door, or on the storage drawer at the bottom (CPSC’s recall notice for LG’s ranges).
Wall oven
On the underside of the control panel.

Laundry

On a front-loader, a WashTower or a combo, open the door: the label is on the front panel behind it, near the top of the opening.

Every laundry appliance
Front-load washer or dryer
A silver label on the front panel behind the door, usually near the top of the opening.
Top-load washer
It depends on the model: under the lid, or on the back.
WashTower or washer-dryer combo
Inside the door, on the washer and on the dryer.

LG repair questions

Anything else? Call (754) 285-8880 Text the label

Are you part of LG’s own repair service?

No. Beaver Appliance is an independent company, not affiliated with LG, and LG doesn’t sponsor or endorse our work. LG runs its own service for appliances under its warranty; when yours is past it, the repair can be ours.

My LG is still under warranty. Who should I call?

LG first: 1-800-243-0000, or a repair request on LG’s website, which takes requests around the clock. If the cover is an extended plan sold by the store, the store handles it. That’s Consumer Reports’ advice too: go to whoever issued the warranty.

How much does it cost to have an LG repaired by you?

It starts with a $69 diagnostic visit, which is taken off the bill if you have the repair done. You get the repair price in writing before any work, and if you decide against it, the visit is all you pay. Typical repair prices are on our pricing page.

Do you fix LG appliances in Tampa Bay too?

Yes. We work in South Florida and in Tampa Bay, each with its own number: (754) 285-8880 (South Florida) or (813) 513-1699 (Tampa Bay). See the towns on the Tampa Bay and South Florida pages.

Do you repair LG ranges and the WashTower?

Yes. We work on the WashTower and LG’s washer-dryer combos, and on electric ranges, cooktops and wall ovens. Where to find their model labels is in the section above. For a gas range or gas dryer, call or text us before you book.

Is an LG refrigerator worth repairing?

Often, but it depends on what failed. A common rule of thumb from Consumer Reports: replace when the repair would cost more than half of a new one. On an LG, check the model’s compressor and sealed-system terms first, since the part may still be covered. The written price from our diagnosis lets you decide with real numbers.
