What is your Samsung dryer doing?
A code showing? Go to the code table.
Runs, but no heat
First check: an electric Samsung has two circuits; if one trips, Samsung says, the drum turns but stays cold. Breaker off 30 seconds, then on.
Call us if the vent is clear and there’s still no heat at all.
Two cycles to dry a load
First check: run Time Dry with Eco Dry off and feel inside after 30 seconds. “If it feels warm, service is almost never required,” Samsung says, so clean the lint filter, and our dryer vent cleaning covers the duct.
Don’t leave it: Samsung warns some older models don’t reduce their heat when the vent clogs, which is when a vent fire is most likely.
Call us if the vent test passes and loads stay damp.
The drum won’t turn
First check: a code on the display, and Child Lock: a restart won’t clear it.
Call us if Time Dry counts down with the drum still; Samsung says no spin usually means service.
Won’t start or power up
First check: breaker off, then the cord, plug and outlet; Samsung says burn marks or a loose cord need an electrician.
Call us if it still won’t turn on or stay on.
Squeals, thumps or rattles
First check: squeal or grind, lighten the load; rattle, level the feet and steady the vent. Samsung calls a hum normal.
Call us if it thumps when empty, or squeals with about four wet towels.
A burning smell, or too hot
First check: Samsung says rayon and other synthetics could burn on high heat; if it runs too hot or shows HC, clean the lint screen and vent.
Call us if it smokes or the smell lasts; switch it off at the breaker first.
Samsung dryer codes
Before any reset, take a photo of the code and the model label.
Samsung asks for the checks first, and never to clear a code that keeps coming back. Some letters mean another fault on its washers: bE is a stuck button here, a motor speed sensor error there.
| Code | Samsung’s meaning Check this first, then |
|---|---|
| HC hE HC4 | Getting too hot Lint screen and vent; for low voltage, an electrician. |
| tS tC tO tE tE3 tC5 tCS | Temperature error Clean the lint screen and vent; if it stays, service. |
| dC dE dF do | Door error Nothing caught in the latch, then close the door firmly. |
| bE bE2 bC2 6E 6E2 6C2 | A button is jammed Touch and release every button, one at a time. |
| 9C1 9E 2E 9E1 | Voltage error A circuit of its own, no extension cord, the power cord fitted properly. |
| FC FE | Wrong power frequency Restart the cycle; still there, service. |
| AC Et AE EEE E3 | Parts not communicating Power off for 60 seconds, then on. |
| 3C oD | Motor error; oD is a dry time error Off for 2 to 3 minutes, then restart. Back again, call us. |
| C80 C8 C90 C9 Clg | Vent test: about 80% clogged; C90, over 90% Some models Clear the lint filter and vent; even after a pass, Samsung says once or twice a year. |
| CL CL1 | Child Lock; CL1 is laundry left in for the vent test Not a fault Hold the two marked buttons 3 seconds or more. |
| dn | Firmware download Not a fault Leave the power on. Showing after 24 hours? Service. |
A shape like an upside-down F is a t, Samsung says.

Samsung dryer questions

What does HC mean on a Samsung dryer?
Samsung reads HC, or hE, as a dryer overheating, mostly from lint or a blocked duct holding the heat in. On an electric model it can also mean the heater isn’t hot enough, from low voltage. During its vent test, HC flags an abnormal temperature.
How do I reset a Samsung dryer?
Samsung’s reset is a power-off, usually one to five minutes, and only after the troubleshooting. If the code comes back, leave it: wiping the error history makes the fault harder for a technician to diagnose. Never cut power while dn shows.
Why does my Samsung dryer stop after a few minutes?
Sensing a blocked vent, it can shut itself off, Samsung explains, which looks like a power cut. Dryer-sheet residue on the two metal sensor bars by the lint filter can end a cycle early too; wipe them with a soft cloth and a drop of dish soap.
How long does Samsung’s warranty cover a dryer?
One year of parts and labor from the original purchase date, in Samsung’s written dryer warranty; the ten-year motor term on its warranty page is for washers only. Samsung warns a claim may be denied if third-party repair caused the damage, so in that year, go to Samsung. After it, the choice is yours.
