What is your Samsung refrigerator doing?

Showing a code? Check the code table.

No ice, or hardly any

First check: the freezer at 0°F or colder, Ice Off unlit, and 6 ounces from the dispenser in under 10 seconds.

Call us if there’s still no ice three hours on.

Ice maker frozen over

First check: a block in the bucket with no white wire hanging from the ice maker may be a spill, Samsung says; empty it. Never thaw the ice maker.

Call us if the wire shows, the ice maker is iced over, or another block forms.

Warm inside, or not cooling

First check: food 2 inches off the vents. No code? Power it off for two minutes; Samsung says it tests itself as it restarts. Allow three hours.

Call us if food spoils early or a code appears.

Frost, or a freezer not freezing

First check: a seal pulled out of its channel pushes back in, Samsung says. Hot food put straight in causes frost, especially in humid climates.

Call us if a seal is torn or the frost returns.

Water under the fridge

First check: often condensation or a missed spill, Samsung says. Then the filter’s seating, and the front’s height: its moving wheels shouldn’t touch the floor.

Call us if the filter housing cracks or the leak returns.

Loud or new noises

First check: gurgling, crackling in defrost and a buzz as the ice maker fills are normal, Samsung says.

Call us if it drowns out talk, grinds with no ice dispensing, or a fan scrapes ice.

Samsung refrigerator codes

Leave it plugged in, and photograph the code and the model label first.

Samsung asks owners not to unplug the fridge or press buttons to clear a code unless its list says to: either makes the fault harder to find.

Code What Samsung says it means First step, then
OF OF O FF, OFF OFF

Cooling Off mode, or demo mode: nothing cools Not a fault

Turn it off as your manual shows. Scrolling bars mean the same.

21E

Freezer fan error, usually a fan iced up by a door left open or a gasket gap

Shut the doors, check the gaskets meet; past that, service.

22E 22C

Fridge fan error, which a door left open too long can cause

Samsung’s step: unplug it, doors open, for a few hours. Back again, service.

83E 85E 86E 88 88 PC ER PC CH

Power, voltage or communication error, often after a surge or a brown out

Off at the plug or breaker 60 seconds, then on; for PC ER, reseat the harness above the door too. Back again, service.

Ice Off blinking

The ice bucket is out, or not seated No service needed

Push the bucket fully home.

39E 39C 40E 40C 14E 8E 33E

Ice maker function, ice room fan, sensor or ice pipe heater errors

Service: Samsung lists nothing for an owner to try.

5E 84C

Fridge defrost sensor error; 84C is a compressor lock

Service, Samsung says. A code not in this table? Text us a photo.

41 42

On a Family Hub, with blue lights flashing Family Hub only

Reboot the Family Hub with the power switch inside the top of the right door; if it persists, service.

Text us the display and the label

The label is low on the left side near the front, and inside on a side wall above the top shelf.

Samsung refrigerator questions

Not answered here? Call (754) 285-8880 Text the display

How do I reset a Samsung ice maker?

Hold its Test button until it chimes, up to 10 seconds. One chime means it passed, Samsung says; several mean it needs service. Don’t press Test again once the tray holds water or ice: it can overflow or jam.

Why does my Samsung ice maker keep freezing up?

It defrosts itself, so ice building up means that defrost has stopped working, which Samsung calls a service job. For Family Hub and SmartThings fridges, Samsung says a firmware update “can help prevent and possibly resolve” it; connect it to SmartThings and it installs.

Is my Samsung refrigerator still under warranty?

Samsung’s written refrigerator warranty covers the whole fridge for a year, parts and labor; the sealed refrigeration system for five years, parts and labor; and the digital inverter compressor part for ten years, with five years of labor. Terms vary by model. Claim covered faults through Samsung, which may deny a claim for damage from third-party repair; after that, you choose the repairer.

Will Samsung replace my refrigerator for free?

Only for a covered defect, and the remedy is Samsung’s call: its written terms say repair, replacement or a refund, at its sole option. With no Samsung servicer nearby, you may owe a trip charge.
